FEMININiTY

I have never been or felt ‘feminine’, called a bunch of things to the contrary of what this would mean in a text book. I started to feel pretty down about it, why wasn’t it ? Why couldn’t I achieve this ? But what does that even mean ? Why are we still this way ? Why are there restraints and rules and boundaries we are taught not to cross, we are taught how to sit, how to appear, how to behave? Coming into womanhood and being a the latter end of my 20s I started to pressure myself to feel a certain way I could never attain.. ‘feminine’ .. but what does this actually mean ? Why did I suddenly care ? The actual definition of this is something which is ‘socially constructed’ ie : not even a real thing. Tara Williams has suggested that modern notions of femininity in English speaking society began during the English medieval period at the time of the bubonic plague in the 1300s. Do we still hold these same beliefs as we did 100s of years ago?
